2018 Mount Oakden Pinot Gris
Varietal: Pinot Gris 100%
Region: Clare Valley
Vineyard: Produced from a single vineyard positioned in the shadow of Mount Oakden in the Skilly Valley, west of Penwortham.
Season Report: A long, mostly dry, yet cooler than average growing season with a few bursts of heat during January and February. Despite good soaking rains during the winter leading up to the growing season, rainfall was below average, particularly during late Spring.
Winemaking: The fruit was hand-harvested on the 24th of March and crushed and drained with some light pressings returned to the free run to increase the wine's flavour and personality. Fermented cool over three weeks, the ferment was stopped just before complete dryness at 3 grams residual sugar to give the wine some additional palate texture.
Cellaring: Best enjoyed now, whilst young and fresh
Tasting Notes: A modern style exhibiting granny smith apples, exotic nashi pears with a touch of cinnamon spice on the palate. Its naturally focussed acidity and a hint of naturally retained sugar provide a cleansing yet textural component to its long finish.
Food Pairing Suggestion: Pan-fried whiting, Kipfler potatoes, and Asian slaw.
