2017 Great Northern Semillon - Museum Release
Varietal: Semillon 100%
Region: Clare Valley
Vineyard: A single vineyard wine, planted on an easterly facing and elevated slope in the highest rainfall location in Watervale. It lies adjacent to the old Great Northern highway that used to pass through the Clare Valley.
Season Report: One of the cooler and wetter Spring and ripening periods we have had in Clare for a while. The lower overall temperatures suit Semillon well, preserving its natural acidity and delicate, lemon-infused fruit characters. Definitely a year that will benefit those that like to cellar wine.
Winemaking: A single parcel was selected and harvested in the cool early morning, gently crushed and chilled before fermenting to complete dryness in a selection of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads. The naturally occurring lemon and tropical flavours are further enhanced by twice-weekly battonage for six months before final blending and bottling in December.
Cellaring: Cellaring potential of at least fifteen to twenty years.
Tasting Notes: Intensely lifted and focussed, the aromas of fresh lemon curd, fresh-cut hay, and subliminal tropical flavours predominate, with a subtle honeyed richness and crisp acidity building to a lingering finish.
Food Pairing Suggestion: Thai green seafood curry or prawns with white wine sauce.
