2022 Vintage Recap

Vintage : one of our favourite times of the year when we watch the Maestro (Kevin) weave his magic. The 2021 / 2022 growing season was almost perfect with solid Spring rains falling across September to November that nourished the vines setting them up for the harvest ahead.

The Woodvale vintage started in mid February with the arrival of the Great Northern Semillon coming in at just under 12.0 Be’. Predominantly cool and dry conditions prevailed until the end of April reducing disease pressure to virtually nil. In fact, March only received 1 mm of rain, recording the driest March ever in the Clare Valley, with only 2 – 3 mm falling in April. The cooler ripening conditions concentrated flavours, increased elegance and fruit structure and enhanced natural acid retention ; perfect for those Rieslings we know and love.

Overall, a vintage full of highlights ; from crisp zesty Rieslings, classic black fruited Cabernets and perfumed Shiraz and Grenache, all built for either long term cellaring, or savoured a little younger on a rainy day.

We can’t wait to get the 2022 wines into glass...ready for you to enjoy.
